Perennial plant with incandescent hair to 150cm tall with spreading rhizome. Stem is upright, square. Leaves are egg-shaped, they have a strongly serrated margin. Terminal leaf tooth longer than adjacent laterals. It grows in damp places around houses. Widespread.
Used: leaf, root, seed.
Nettle leaf contains an organic acid (oxalic acid, formic acid , silicic …, the free amine (acetylcholine, betaine, choline, histamine, serotonin), flavonoids, carotenoids, tannins, coumarins (scopoletin), glukokinin, vitamin C, K1 .
Nettle leaf is used in the form of tea (boiled in water) with the purpose to gently “force” urine and against diarrhea. It is believed that nettle is a good cure for “anemia” and it is considered to be vital for the better functioning of the organism (positive effect on metabolic processes). Leaf, root and seeds are used for making alcoholic extract (tincture). They are used for prostate diseases, their effectiveness has been confirmed and are used along with drug therapy.
